Celebrating your Registered Relationship
The Relationship Act 2011 enables couples, regardless of gender, to have their relationship registered and thereby legally recognised in Queensland as long as both parties are at least 18 years of age, and one is resident in Queensland.

To formally register your relationship you will need to apply to the Queensland Registry Office or a local courthouse. Details can be found on the Registry Office Website

When you register your relationship you are expressly denied the option of doing so through a formal ceremony. It is purely a paper transaction. However, there is nothing to stop you celebrating the registration of your relationship with family and friends. Your commitment ceremony can be a celebration of your registered relationship, or within the ceremony you can acknowledge your intention to register your relationship
